Chandrapaul ton sinks The Philadelphians in high scoring encounter

Howe athletic complex presented a belter of a pitch for both teams. The Philadelphians won the toss and chose to bat hoping they would put the Cavaliers under pressure with a high scoring chase.

Racy start by Abdullah Syed and Derrick Narine ensured that The Philadelphians got off to a flier until they were thwarted by a peach by Shah dismissing Derrick Narine for 17 off 10 balls while Abdullah Syed fell soon after he scored an impressive 31 off 26 balls. Chiru Bhatia and skipper Milind Kumar took control of the batting with Milind taking on the mantle of being the aggressor towards the end. Starting his innings with some brisk running between the wickets, Milind played like a man possessed hitting humongous 6 sixes making the boundary lines look ever so small. Milind ended with an outstanding 83 runs off 39 balls. As a result of the herculean effort by Milind, the Philadelphians posted what looked to be a highly competitive 192/4.

A confident Philly unit went back to the dressing room hoping that they would make early inroads in Cavaliers batting line up. The Cavaliers got off to a best possible start for a chase of this magnitude. The opening combination of VanditKumar Prajapati-Chandrapaul Hemraj launched a double barrel attack against the Philly bowling unit extracting maximum value out of the powerplay hitting the ball where the fielders weren't. They went on to post 113 run partnership for the first wicket, a rarity given the quality of the Philly bowling attack. By the time Prajapati was dismissed for 69 runs, the match was well and truly in Cavaliers control. Hemraj went on to score an impressive century 101 to be adjudged Player of the Match.

The Cavaliers batsmen completed the formalities by registering a comprehensive win with more than an over to spare.

Although the Philly bowling unit had a day to forget, the batting shone through with yet another score above 190. The Philadelphians unit have a few things to ponder about going forward as we enter the business end of the tournament. But we are sure we will bounce back stronger.
